  Vegetables and Spices Commodity Team

   
The vegetable and spices team carries out research on vegetable crops (cabbage, tomato, onion, irish potatoes, leek, mustard, rape, etc) and spices (chillies, paprika, turmeric ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and mushrooms.

Areas of research

(i) developing and evaluating varieties for yield quality and tolerance/resistance against pests and diseases,
(ii) developing agronomic and cultural practices for the production of vegetables and spices, and
(iii) producing seed for vegetable and spice crops and spawn for mushrooms.

Achievements

Released varieties
(a) Tomatoes, cabbage chillies, onion/garlic, irish potatoes, paprika and mushrooms

Recommended cultural and agronomic practices
(i) time of planting, weeding and harvesting,
(ii) handling and processing after harvest, and
(iii) pest and disease control strategies.
