Malawi SDNP is a UNDP funded Malawi Government Programme executed under the Office of President and Cabinet to assist with development of Internet and information services in Malawi with emphasis on sustainable development.

THE MALAWI SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT NETWORK PROGRAMME

MALAWI SDNP 

The Malawi Sustainable Development Network Programme (SDNP) is a Government of Malawi programme funded by UNDP. SDNP is a global programme initiated by UNDP. The agreement to carry out this programme in Malawi was signed in August 1996.  

OBJECTIVES 

The broad objective of the programme is to assist with the development of Internet and information services in Malawi with emphasis on sustainable development. 

EXECUTION AND IMPLEMENTATION 

The programme is being executed under the Office of President and Cabinet: 

  • Government execution agency has been the National Research Council of Malawi (NRCM).  
  • Implementation is by a Coordination Unit (CU) based at the Polytechnic in Blantyre  
  • CU is supervised by a National Steering Committee of 14 members representing a wide cross-section of Malawian interests including private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGO), education, government, donors and telecommunications. 
LICENSE 

Malawi SDNP was granted a Malawi value added telecommunications operator license in December 1998 as an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
