The
Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) is an Agency of the
Government of Malawi responsible for assessment,
collection and accounting for tax revenues. It was
formed to improve on the functions previously carried
out by Departments of Customs and Excise and Income
Tax.
The MRA is operating on a
commercial basis with an independent Board of
Directors. Employees of the MRA were drawn from both
the public and private sectors. Selection of employees
was carefully done to meet the aims and objectives of
the MRA which demand a high degree of professionalism
and integrity.
The properly trained and motivated
employees of the MRA are providing professional,
efficient and effective tax service, and a fair
treatment to the taxpayers. The mission
statement of the MRA is:
To contribute
to national development through cost effective,
equitable and effective enforcement of revenue laws
and to continuously provide quality service to all
stakeholders.
The Malawi Revenue Authority
enforces tax laws so that tax due is paid on time, and
those who pay after the due date are liable to
penalties.
