MALAWI JOURNAL OF BIBLICAL
STUDIES
Editor: Hilary Mijoga
It is often assumed that the proper countries for biblical
studies are America, Britain and of course, Germany. Though scholars
may be leading in these countries of the north, the Bible has long gained
a prominent place in Malawian culture, a fact that finds its expression
in the pages of this new annual journal expected in May 2001, with about
100 pages A5 per issue.

SOURCES FOR THE STUDY
OF RELIGION IN MALAWI
Starting in 1979, the Department of Theology and Religious
Studies at the University of Malawi, produced, in very simple format,
17 issues of documents useful for the study of religion. In 2000, the
Department reopened this series with no. 18 to cater for documents and
other texts which may not meet the requirements for a book, but contain
valuable documentation or information to be preserved.

MVUNGUTI BOOKS
Mvunguti Books, sister to the Kachere Series, publishes
books in the many languages of Malawi, and since English has become
one of them, it is not excluded either. While most of the teaching of
theology in Malawi is done in English, most of the preaching, singing
and praying is done in the many different languages of Malawi, so the
Mvunguti Books intend to develop vernacular theology in Malawi and also
to publish cultural texts.
