The Malawi National Examinations Board was founded in April
1987 as a result of a merger between the Malawi Certificate Examinations and Testing Board and the Examinations Section of the Ministry of Education. The Malawi Certificate
Examinations and Testing Board was created in 1969 by Act of Parliament to take charge of the process of localizing the developing and administering of the School Leaving Certificate Examinations at ordinary level. Prior to these developments students finishing their secondary education used to sit for the Cambridge Overseas School Leaving Certificate Examination. The last of that examination was administered in 1971. During the transition the Malawi Certificate Examinations and Testing Board and the Associated Examining Board of the United Kingdom were responsible for developing and administering the Malawi School Certificate Examination. Their first examination was developed and administered in 1972. This went on up to 1989 when the handovers to the Malawi National Examinations Board were completed. |
