The University Of livingstonia Invites Applications for Diploma and Degree Primary School Teacher Education Programme Reverend H. Matiya Nkhoma, General Secretary of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia announced today(June 30, 2003) that, applications are now being accepted for Diploma or Degree programme in Primary School Education at the University of Livingstonia. This is a great day in the history of higher education in Malawi, commented Reverend Nkhoma. Dr Robert Laws envisioned university education for the people of Malawi and began post-secondary courses at Livingstonia in 1895. The Synod, in partnership with the Ministries of Education, Health and Population and Labour has been offering higher education since that time through various programmes. We are now bringing to reality Dr Laws vision with the opening of the University of Livingstonia. Applications to the College of Education programmes that will be taught at Livingstonia must meet minimum qualifications including Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with credit in English and pass in Mathematics. The closing date for applications is 5:00pm, Monday, 14 July 2003. Interviews will be held for short listed students the week of 21 July and 29 July. Classes will begin on 30 July 2003. The first year tuition fees include housing and food is K75, 000. For two years, a 25 member citizens commission and sub-committee have been developing the university concept. According to Chairman J T X Muwamba, commission members are to be commended for their commitment to this project. The Commission has worked hard with project co-ordinator J R Banda. We recently accepted the university development plan of action submitted by Vice Chancellor Dr Henry P Kirk and his wife, Jenny Sheldon Kirk, Director of University Relations. We are thrilled that the Synod of Livingstonia has carried this project forward and that the university will soon be headquarters at the plateau and will offer courses at various satellite centers. There is a great need for higher education opportunities in Malawi, stated Dr Kirk. The University of Livingstonia is about delivering excellent education in response to the needs of the Malawian community. We are starting humbly, but will continue to respond by building on existing programmes and utilizing available facilities. Student success will be our number one priority; the success of our students will be the measure of our excellence. The University Of Livingstonia is open to all Malawians and others who
can benefit from education based on high academic standards and solid
Christian values. The University is established to enhance higher
education opportunities available in Malawi and to train principled
leaders to build a better future for the nation. University of Livingstonia, through excellent teaching, research and learning environment, shall educate and inspire students to become principled leaders who will transform society for the glory of God. |
