THE KWACHA CULTURAL TROUPE

       The Kwacha Cultural Troupe was formed in November 1987, to revive, perform and present various traditional dances performed in Malawi. The troupe comprises men and women drawn from all the districts of Malawi.

       Among its aims, the troupe was formed to meet the following objectives:

i) Revive, promote, and preserve Malawi's traditional dances and performing arts top ensure their continuity

ii) Promote general awareness, respect, and appreciation of Malawi's traditional dances and music.

iii) Act as a symbol of national unity by bringing together people from different parts of the country to perform traditional dances from the various ethnic groups of Malawi

iv) Perform at public functions and national events

v)To participate in traditional Cultural Exchange Programmes, competitions, and festivals thus learning about other people's cultural traditions and help disseminate Malawi's culture abroad.

Since its creation in 1987, the troupe has been a source of attraction and entertaining at many international conferences,seminars and workshops, in addition to performing to local audiences.
