2009 General Elections Order

The terms of Section 36(1) of the Parliamentary and Presidential Elections Act no. 31 of 1993 as amended, the Malawi Electoral Commission wishes to notify the general public that:

1. A general Election shall be held throughout the country.

2. Registration of voters shall be held in six staggered phases for fourteen days in each phase from 2nd June 2008 to 14th September 2008 to enfranchise all those that will be 18 years and above on 19th May 2009.

3. The Commission shall recieve nomination papers from presidential candidates on 6th and 7th January 2009 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in Blantyre.

4. Returning Officers shall recieve nomination papers from parliamentary candidates from 5th to 9th January 2009 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in electoral offices to be established in their respective constituencies.

5. The voters' roll shall be open for inspection from 30th March 2009 to 3rd April 2009 in all the centers throughout the country

6. Polling shall take place on 19th May 2009 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm in all stations to be established in all the centers in the country

2009 Elections

The fourth multiparty presidential and parliamentary elections in Malawii will be held on 19th May 2009 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. The elections will run by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC). Candidates will come from political parties and various independents contestants. Also featuring will be presidential candidates. The 2009 elections will be released by the Malawi Electoral Commission and results are expected to be presented in these pages among others. Disclaimer.
